A manicured hedge, cared for over the centuries by a family of peasant pruners, encircling the depths of a Borgesian labyrinth; the Sacro Bosco in northern Lazio scattered with mannerist monuments, Orcus with his mouth agape (The Hell Mouth), where those of the Late Renaissance dined within its bodily opening — eating whilst being eaten; caves littered with “that which drips”, stalactites employed as a veil made of minerals, an entryway to the depths of leper creativity; a mother’s ornate locket finished with a glossy yet foggy green stone, contained to an oak box by her bedside table, holding the residue of an image now dissolved by its last outing in the Mediterranean Sea; the Haus u r on Unterheydener Straße in Mönchengladbach-Rheydt, where the rooms within rooms slowly become more inaccessible, moved into their state of isolation by concrete, plumbing, insulation and sound-absorbing materials; the earth, overflowing with tellurian beauty, with its porous crust housing holes by which to venture down to its chthonic centre and see the dying sun; a wife who paints abstractions on Japanese paper, blurred becomings developed from an archive of images, now an enchanting mist of colour and textures; a cosmic sea of glistening glacier-like galaxies, rife with complexity and incoherency, swirling to the point where a star draws its last breath; a silent man walking through a town square, passers-by inexplicably alert to the silence of his foot-fall on the cobbles, where he is “left behind to endure the melancholy Baltic evening”; the blue green ocean, vast undulating gentle ripples of endless liquid that make up “the indestructible sea”, rife with soon to be decommissioned claustrophobic vessels; a mind of a madman, overrun with the complexity of nothingness with a fear of empty spaces (horror vacui), to then be “SMASHED TO PIECES (IN THE STILL OF THE NIGHT)”
